Letter to the Editor: The only true forgiveness

(Letter to the Editor - Graphic Illustration/MetroCreativeConnection)

Society has no desire to be forgiving for anything, even for an accidental speaking of a word that is considered “unacceptable” by the arbiters of society, the social media geniuses.

In the recent case of the Oklahoma football coach reading something that was on the tablet of a player who was supposed to be taking notes at a team meeting it is apparent that no one has said anything about the player who wrote or was reading something with the offensive word on it. I have not seen anywhere what the word was, and it does not matter, but should not the player have been kicked off the team and his life ruined for any job after football forever?

Social media has been given the power to “cancel” anyone or anything under the guise of social justice. Why? Are we such a degenerate society that no forgiveness exists, where no one is given a second chance, a society where an apology means nothing anymore? Is that what we as a country want our children to learn?

Years ago cooking star Paula Deen was fired for admitting in a deposition that she might have used a racial slur over 30 years ago. She admitted it and profusely apologized for the transgression, albeit years before. Her apology was not accepted and she was gone from TV.

I also notice that celebrity author, business woman, etc. Martha Stewart is appearing on the food networks as a guest judge. Martha Stewart is a convicted federal felon and served time in federal prison, but she obviously has been forgiven and is right back at it.

The hypocrisy of this matter is what is frightening. It could happen to any of us. But, however foolish the affairs of this present world are, there is someone who can and will forgive our sins forever.

He is Jesus Christ, who died for our sins on the cross and is ready, willing, and able to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. He is the God of second, third, fourth chances and more. What the world does not understand is this type of forgiveness is the only kind that matters. Jesus died to save us from our sins and keep us from suffering eternal damnation.

I implore you to turn to Jesus today and experience the only forgiveness that matters.
