Letter to the Editor: President slams West Virginia

During the presidential debate on Sept. 30, Trump alleged that West Virginia absentee ballots were found in streams. I am outraged and saddened. The News and Sentinel has published several articles on voting procedure, both absentee and in person. Our County Clerk, the Wood County Commission, and the Secretary of State's Office have been working hard to allow voters to vote easily, safely, and securely. There will be poll workers from two parties working at each polling station to ensure the safety and accuracy of the election. Because more than one party is represented at each poll and because all workers must be present when votes are cast, these workers act as our poll watchers. In Wood County most of our poll workers are Republicans.
I requested my absentee ballot from the electronic portal on the Secretary of State's website and I can track the ballot's progress from approval of the application, to mailing of the ballot to me and to the ballot's receipt by the County Clerk.
West Virginia election officials deserve praise for their hard work to ensure election security, not false accusations by a president -- a president who wouldn't give a direct answer when asked if he would accept the results of the election.
