Fact check what you write

Readers, if you are going to quote military history, please fact check before you write a letter. I’m not a good historian, but I do remember a few dates. I use the Internet to look up dates I need or I use the library at the Veterans Museum, which has several hundred books on all wars.

The Battle of the Bulge started Dec. 16, 1944 (not 1940) and ended Jan. 24, 1945.

The town of Bastogne was not captured by the 101st Airborne; it was relieved by the 101st.

I don’t mean to offend anyone; I’m just suggesting that research be done before dates are quoted. Unfortunately our history is being lost. Schools do not teach anything about WWI, WWII, Korea or Vietnam. Many of the men and women involved in these wars are being forgotten. Example: I met a young woman who thought Pearl Harbor and D-Day were the same thing.
