* The Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg has once again earned the support of the Taco Bell Foundation, through its community grant program. This is the third year the club has received grant funding from the program to support workforce readiness programs for teens. "We're so grateful for the continued support of the Taco Bell Foundation, and for their commitment to helping local teens," said Darlene Murphy, the club's CEO. "These dollars go a long way to help our kids learn about different career paths, interview tips or other skills that are needed for adulthood." The program -- through which customers are asked to round up their Taco Bell order totals -- is a good example of companies maintaining a local focus with the help of franchisees. "What I love most about Community Grants is how local they are," said Morgan Tabor, executive director of the Taco Bell Foundation. "Taco Bell franchisees know these organizations, they believe in their work, and together we're helping more young people see just how much is possible for their futures." Thank you, not only to the Taco Bell Foundation, but to all those customers who said "yes" to rounding up.
* Retiring president and CEO of the Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau Mark Lewis was honored last week with the Oshel Craigo Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes more than four decades of service to West Virginia's tourism industry. It is an honor richly deserved after a lifetime dedicated to West Virginia tourism -- and most recently, to Parkersburg and the Mid-Ohio Valley. "Mark has spent more than 40 years building relationships, sharing his knowledge and championing West Virginia tourism," said Autumn Henthorn, interim president of the Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The standing ovation from his peers was a wonderful reflection of the respect people throughout this industry have for him and the impact he has made during his career."
