* Building a habit of connecting to and helping your community is an important part of what it means to grow and learn during the college years. Football players at Marietta College are getting a good start on that lesson by doing work such as the cleanup at Oak Grove Cemetery last week. Led by Marietta resident Roger Kalter, the players and other community volunteers helped to clear out a drainage ditch and clean up a sidewalk, among other tasks. Regarding his team, head coach Tom Hinkle said "They're not coming to just play football. They're coming here to learn life skills and lessons, and they're going to give back to their community." Certainly, the community appreciates them and all the others who showed up to do the work. Well done, folks.
* Peoples Bank Foundation gave $6,000 to the Latrobe Mission last week, as the facility works to make improvements to the building's exterior. “The appearance of a building sends a powerful message to those who walk through its doors every day," Michelle Bearhs, the mission's executive director, said. "By investing in improvements to our facility’s exterior, we are creating an environment that reflects dignity, hope and opportunity,” Bearhs said. “When residents can take pride in the place they call home, it helps foster confidence, self-worth and a belief that positive change is possible.” To that end, other community partners, such as Chuck Hughes, CFO of Jan Dils Attorneys at Law, gave another $2,000, while others also leant their support. “We are proud to support an effort that not only improves the appearance of the facility but reinforces the sense of belonging that every person deserves,” he said. “This project reflects the power of community partnerships and the positive impact we can have while working toward a common goal.” Thank you, everyone.
