* Approximately 150 volunteers at 16 sites joined in the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley’s annual Day of Action last week. Completing service projects for local nonprofits, the volunteers spent the day on everything from building a walking path to organizing and pricing items for the ReStore. It’s an effort many local businesses are eager to join. “They put the date out and we all put it on our calendars immediately and sign up,” said Cassie Kerns, nurse recruiter with WVU Medicine Camden Clark. “It is a fun way to get out and be involved with our community that we serve every day. This is just a different way we can help serve.” United Way Executive Director Stacy DeCicco called the event “a fantastic day of service that happens all across the Mid-Ohio Valley. We have people out on the ground providing service and support for our programs.” Given the degree to which those programs serve and support so many in our region, that work is essential. Thank you, to all who participated.
* EVE Inc.’s organizational reset is winding down, and nonresidential services are set to resume July 6, with all services fully reopening Aug. 3. In an effort that included revisions to EVE’s nonprofit bylaws, policies and procedures, job descriptions, cross-training, operational systems and organizational practices, Executive Director Trina Rataiczak said the organization understood it was “imperative that we develop a strategic plan that is sustainable both fiscally and operationally.” With an eye toward strengthening services, partnerships and long-term operations, Rataiczak said. “We believe that taking the time to thoughtfully rebuild now will allow EVE to better serve survivors, strengthen community partnerships, and remain a sustainable resource for years to come.” Given how important EVE Inc. is to our community and the individuals it serves, it is encouraging to know such a rebuild has taken place. Well done, folks.
