* What a wonderful stretch it has been for entertainment and events in the Mid-Ohio Valley, as Pride Fest, Taste of Parkersburg, Marietta’s Second Sunday, Parkersburg’s Meet Me on Market, the Multi-Cultural Festival, the West Virginia Day celebration on Blennerhassett Island, Marietta Main Street’s Summer Shop Hop and more left no excuses for those who like to complain there is nothing to do. Though it is true all year round, the warmer weather lets us give proof that our communities are vibrant and diverse — full of good food, good music, fantastic shops and a great deal of history. Organizers of these events are to be commended for continuing to provide such options for those of us who enjoy good company, and getting out and exploring when we can. Thank you, everyone!
* When West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner stopped in Parkersburg for office hours last week, he noted his effort to get eligible high school seniors registered to vote has so far yielded more than 18,000 registrations. Wood County Christian School and St. Marys High School are among the schools that have received the Jennings Randolph Award for having gotten at least 85% of their school’s senior class registered to vote. Warner has already been to some other local high schools, but says he plans to get to Williamstown High School next year. It is encouraging to know so many young people are ready to be part of the conversation when it comes to our state’s and country’s future. Here’s hoping Warner’s effort only gains momentum. We need them more than ever.
