High Points of the Valley

* Mid-Ohio Valley residents could be thankful last week for the number of organizations that hosted meals or meal delivery to be sure as many as possible could feast for the Thanksgiving holiday. WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center presented more than 1,000 pounds of turkey to the Salvation Army of Parkersburg ahead of its Thanksgiving meal Thursday. In turn, the Salvation Army provided approximately 1,200 meals through both delivery and take-out.

* Washington County Career Center hosted nearly 600 staff and students for its annual Thanksgiving luncheon Wednesday. With a meal prepared by the food service crew that included freshly cooked turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, dinner rolls, stuffing, green beans and pie, those gathered for the event were guaranteed a meal for which to be thankful. “This is something the students and staff look forward to every year,” said Superintendent Tony Huffman. “It’s something that builds culture and it makes people feel good.”

* Volunteers at Norwood United Methodist Church in Marietta started at about 7 a.m. Thursday, to prepare food for the annual Thanksgiving meal and delivery. Scout Troop 203 helped put together the pies. First Christian Church in Parkersburg resumed in-person dining this year for its annual meal; and American Legion Post 159 in Williamstown held its annual community meal. “I really appreciate the volunteers that come out, give up their time with their families and stuff to help other families, to pass out Thanksgiving dinners to them,” said Shaun Harris, program coordinator at Norwood United Methodist. We appreciate them, too. Once again, then, folks: Thank you!
