* Thank goodness for those who answered the call from organizations such as the American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley or West Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster in the wake of horrific flooding in Ohio and Marion counties. “Obviously, the Red Cross is working hard making sure the needs of the community are being taken care of with its collaborative partners and many others,” said Sharon Kesselring, executive director American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley in Parkersburg. They and other organizations are able to take care of those trying to recover from natural disaster because people like you wanted to help. Thank you.

* In its continued effort to rid the world of a vicious virus, the Rotary Club of Parkersburg hosted its second annual Run to End World Polio on June 14. It was a 5K run and walk that drew participants from throughout the community. In fact, the club’s Senta Goudy said the event raised more than $1,000 that will go to the Rotary International Polio Plus Program, which works to prevent the disease, provide clean water to communities, create jobs, improve healthcare and support those who are dealing with the effects of polio. Well done, folks.

* Belpre officials and community members are well on their way to revitalizing Civitan Park, after review of a proposed master plan for the project last week. Discussing everything from pickleball courts to an all-abilities playground — maybe even a restaurant barge — the ideas were pitched with the help of engineering firm American Structurepoint. “Our goal is to make Civitan Park a more relevant and accessible space for current and future generations,” said Mayor Susan Abdella. “Just to have this plan, to give us a road map, so everyone can be on the same vision, so that no matter who comes next…all of our groups will now have the same vision, and we can all work together.” With such a clear vision, and sustained community support, there is no doubt those who choose to work together will bring wonderful things to life at the park.

Starting at $3.70/week.
