* WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center took another life-saving step last week when it presented automatic external defibrillators to two community organizations — Progress Ridge Community Building and Waverly Activity Center. “Having essential life-saving equipment on hand is critical during a medical emergency. However, this equipment can be cost-prohibitive for many of our local nonprofits and community organizations,” said Shawn Marshall, WVU Medicine Camden Clark manager of EMS Services. “We’re thrilled for the opportunity to donate the equipment and provide training to help ensure these organizations are prepared in the event of an emergency, which further strengthens our commitment to supporting public safety. The donation of this equipment is a testament to Camden Clark’s dedication to giving back and serving our community beyond the walls of our hospital and clinics.” This is no insignificant donation, as each AED costs approximately $1,700. Though the hope is that these never see use, if the need ever arises these two machines could save lives. Kudos to everyone who helped make it happen.

* Marietta City Schools is preparing to welcome a new superintendent, as Mary Schaeffer is ready to come on board Aug. 1. Though she faced stiff competition, Schaeffer rose to the top among 20 applicants — six of whom received interviews. “We are very confident that Dr. Schaeffer is going to be a tremendous fit here and just what we need,” said Board President Cody Parman. For her part, Schaeffer says she is excited to get to work. “It is a privilege to work in partnership with the Marietta Board of Education, our outstanding staff and the entire community,” she said. “Together, we will collaborate to support every student and ensure a bright future for Marietta’s schools.” Those are promising goals, and we look forward to seeing Schaeffer dig in to make a difference for our students and schools.

Starting at $2.99/week.
