* Wood County Historical and Preservation Society Secretary Diana Hill has certainly earned her recognition as a West Virginia History Hero. From her work as a librarian at Emerson Elementary School to her dedication as lead docent at Parkersburg's Phelps-Tavenner House, Hill's attention to detail makes her the kind of researcher our region (and state) needs to preserve an accurate account of what got us here. "Diana excelled in her position," said Dottie Enoch, vice president of the society. "She's very meticulous, thorough and enthusiastic about history." And Hill says her dearest hope is that her work can inspire more people to visit the Phelps-Tavenner House and learn more about its story. Even after being told of her upcoming honor, Hill still focuses on her work and says "I'd love to give everyone a tour," of the Phelps-Tavenner House. It's a tour Mid-Ohio Valley residents should be eager to take. Surely, a history hero such as Hill will make it very much worth the trip.

* Hadleigh F. and Kloe H. have been selected as Junior Youth and Youth of the Year, respectively, for the Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg. The two have exhibited leadership skills and characteristics of members who embody the club's culture and, as the organization says, prove the effectiveness of its programming. "This was our first Youth of the Year event held at Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg, and we were honored to provide an opportunity for members to tell their story about how being a Club kid has positively impacted their lives," said Boys and Girls Clubs of Parkersburg CEO Lynn Reins. "We could not be prouder of Hadleigh and Kloe along with their co-competitors Maddie D. and Jasmine D." Congratulations to the pair, who will next head to Charleston to be part of a statewide competition. Good luck!
