* Mid-Ohio Valley residents watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade had the chance to watch for several familiar faces, as the region had unusually heavy representation during the annual tradition. Members of the West Virginia University Marching Band -- the Pride of West Virginia -- included 12 graduates of Parkersburg, Williamstown and Parkersburg South high schools. A current Williamstown High School student also was part of the Macy's Great American Marching Band. If you watched Stuart the Minion float by, you might also have caught a glimpse of Parkersburg resident Victoria West at the end of one of the lines that helped keep Stuart in check. (By the way, it's not quite the MOV, but if you enjoyed listening to Hoda Kotb co-hosting the event and caught a little "Let's go, Mountaineers!" when the Pride was on screen, she grew up in Morgantown.) To paraphrase Tony Caridi, it was a great day to be a Mountaineer, wherever you may have been.
* Visitors to Williamstown Bank's The Giving Cup have given enough through the program that last month the bank was able to present a check for $3,030 to North Star Child Advocacy Center. According to North Star Executive Director Greg Collins, it is the largest payout received from the Giving Cup since the center became a beneficiary in April 2023. "It's absolutely amazing that so many people have committed to supporting North Star through this method," he said. "The money we have received from The Giving Cup has been put to good use, and it is giving us the capability to do better for our children." Williamstown Bank CEO/President Sharon Anderson added "The Giving Cup has provided us with the perfect way for people in our community to give back, all the while getting something tasty in return." It's a win-win. Well done, everyone.
