United Way: Highmark donation will fund good work

Across the Mountain State, United Way organizations provide resources and support for those who are vulnerable and in need. In a state like ours, that means there are a LOT of people who rely on them. But the United Way doesn’t do its work without good partners.

Last week, the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health proved itself just that by giving a total of $102,000 to United Ways across the state.

“We are delighted to contribute to the important work of United Way organizations across the Mountain State, helping them to create positive change in the lives of families and residents,” said Jim Fawcett, president of Highmark West Virginia. “Through this fund, we’re committed to strengthening communities in all 55 counties, and our partnership with the United Way is a key element in achieving that goal.”

United Way of Central West Virginia, United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley, and the United Way of Upper Ohio Valley got $25,000 each. The United Way of Southern West Virginia, the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties, the United Way of the River Cities, the United Way of Greenbrier Valley, the Tygart Valley United Way, the United Way of Eastern Panhandle, the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties, the County United Way (Mineral and Hampshire), and the United Way of Gilmer, Lewis and Upshur got $3,000 each.

This isn’t just a one-time burst of generosity. Since 2021, the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health has handed out more than $6 million in grant funding to Mountain State nonprofits.

That’s a big deal in communities where the need for a hand up can run a little deeper than perhaps in other parts of the country.

“This generous support from the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health allows us to continue providing vital resources and programs to individuals and families in need,” Stacy DeCicco, executive director of the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley, said. “We are grateful for this ongoing partnership and the impact it has on our communities.”

And so are all who understand how important are community partners to the continued effort to lift ALL West Virginians.

Starting at $2.99/week.
