* An important partnership enters another year, as the Boys & Girls Club of Parkersburg continues to support Special Olympics athletes by allowing the swim team to practice at the club's pool. "All kids want a safe, fun space to do what they love," said Boys & Girls Club of Parkersburg CEO Lynn Reins. "Having the Special Olympics swim team practice at the club is a way to allow even more kids to reach their full potential and utilize the wonderful environment that is Boys & Girls Club of Parkersburg." How wonderful to know we are able to cheer on athletes who have done their training right here in Parkersburg, as they prepare for competition in Charleston and perhaps even get ready for the next National Special Olympics Championships in 2026.

* As our region's relationship with SAI.TECH continues to grow, it is encouraging to see plans for a grant received by the Organization of Clean Energy and Climate. The money from the Marietta Community Foundation will be used to help develop curricular materials to create hands-on, on-site learning on the topic of an advanced computing center ecosystem. SAI.TECH's greenhouse on Gravel Bank Road in Marietta will allow high school students to learn about computing data center systems, why they generate so much heat and how this recycled heat can be used for a variety of applications. "With the help of this grant from the (community foundation), we hope to expand the educational impact of the project throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley and create new applications for recycled heat," said George Banziger, a member of the project's advisory group. What a fascinating and important lesson for our young people -- and for all of us.
