High Points of the Valley

* Across the Mid-Ohio Valley, high school seniors took part in parades, ceremonies, graduations and more than a few parties as they celebrated the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. While we hope they and their families enjoy the celebration of their accomplishments safely and responsibly, it is truly an occasion to celebrate. The next phase of their educations or careers is full of possibilities. How wonderful it will be to see the mark these young people will make on our world. Congratulations, ladies and gentlemen!
* As we wish retiring Vienna Police Chief Mike Pifer well, we are also glad to congratulate the new chief Carl L. Powell II. A local man, a military man, and one with an extensive history in local and regional law enforcement, Powell seems well-suited to take the reins. Congratulations to you as well, sir!
* The 17th annual Taste of Parkersburg was another triumph for Director Amanda Stevens and her team at Downtown PKB. Top notch local food and beverages, good music, good company and weather that cooperated meant for a wonderful day out for thousands. “I can never take credit for this event single-handedly, we have an amazing committee and board that come together with our volunteers and make this happen,” Stevens said. “It takes a huge effort and it takes everyone working together. We’re always learning and finding new ways to make it more fun and safe for the patrons here.” It’s hard to believe they plan to top this year, but for now everyone involved — from sponsors to patrons — can look back fondly on an event to remember.
