* Patrolman Ethan Goree has been sworn in as the latest member of the Vienna Police Department. His addition brings the department to full staffing. As Goree prepares to attend the West Virginia State Police Academy at the end of the month, Vienna residents can rest a little easier knowing the agency meant to serve and protect their community is at full strength.

* Efforts under way to disperse the more than 70,000 books that were housed in the former Ohio Valley University library involve teamwork by West Virginia University at Parkersburg, regional Churches of Christ, other affiliated groups and a host of volunteers. Without a new library planned for what will become the WVUP Incubator and Technology Center, the books -- many of which are religious -- needed a new home. "This library is going to ... benefit so many groups," said Dale Parsley, minister at the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ in St. Marys. Well done, to those who came up with a solution that puts the books back in the hands of those who will get good use out of them.

* Parkersburg High School students under the direction of teacher Scott Cleland unveiled a new Wood County Schools logo last week, and presented it for installation in the Bailey Boardroom in the central offices. "The students at PHS have really outdone themselves," said Superintendent Christie Willis. "This is beautiful." What a wonderful addition, and example of the talent that is brought to life in our schools.
