* Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and Regional Affiliates kicked off the 11th annual Give Local MOV campaign last week, with help from the traditional opening contribution from Superior Toyota in Parkersburg. "We're delighted to once again recognize Superior Toyota as our lead sponsor for Give Local MOV," said Julie Posey, the PACF's senior development and stewardship officer. "They generously stepped up again this year with a major gift of $35,000 to get our matching resources started." As owner T.R. Hathaway noted, Superior's team and its customers make such generosity possible. "If the community didn't support us, we wouldn't be able to provide this type of funding for our community," he said. "We are thankful for our community and want to give back. Give Local MOV is an excellent way to do just that in our region." The rest of us are thankful, too.
* Another annual tradition returned last week with the Relay for Life in Wood County's 2024 Kick-Off Party. This year is the 30th anniversary of the event. As Carmen Hathaway, a spokesman and senior development manager for the American Cancer Society in Wood County, said Relay for Life is a "great way to 'pay-it-forward' in honor of someone you know who has battled cancer." This is another of the many ways local residents band together for good.
* Congratulations to Michelle Sampson, 18, of Mineral Wells, who was named 2024 West Virginia Beef Queen during the Mountaineer Stockman's College on Dec. 9 at Canaan Valley Resort in Davis. A senior at Parkersburg South High School, Sampson is vice president of the Blennerhassett FFA Chapter. Sampson says she is looking forward to serving, and will be crowned at the West Virginia Beef Expo April 11. Congratulations!
