* Hundreds of volunteers spent Christmas Day making sure those who wanted a good meal; perhaps needed a pair of socks, gloves or other necessities; and maybe even were still in need of a few gifts to put under the tree, had a place to go Dec. 25. Just a couple of the examples of holiday spirit from that day are the Marietta Christmas Feast and the First Presbyterian Church's annual Christmas dinner in Parkersburg. The events are a wonderful showcase for the way the spirit of giving lives in so many Mid-Ohio Valley residents. And those who do the work truly make a difference. "The food is good and the people who served the food are really nice," said Mike Kapp, who attended the dinner in Parkersburg. Thank you to those who are so much more than "nice" as year after year they make sure Christmas can be merry for as many as possible.

* Siblings Rob Fouss and Pam Fouss Wenmoth created the Robert E. Fouss Memorial Fund with the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation back in 1999. Among its goals is providing shoes to local young people in need. This year, through a $1,000 donor advised grant to the Children's Home Society of Parkersburg, all the children at the Arthur N. Gustke Child Shelter received a pair of shoes. "My father made sure that any kids who came into his store who needed shoes, left with a new pair on their feet," Rob Fouss said. "It is a humbling feeling to help others less fortunate and this charitable fund is a way that I can honor my father's lifelong ambition to help those in need." What a wonderful way to follow the good example set by their father.
