* Economic development news continues to be a bright spot for the Mid-Ohio Valley, with Lindsey Piersol, Executive Director of Wood County Development, telling Wood County Commission "There is a lot of stuff going on." One piece of good news is Wood County being named among the seven counties statewide with a Build West Virginia designation. That means local residential developers can apply to have their projects accepted through the state development office. We are assured other announcements are on the way, and it all adds up to a reason to get a little excited about what might be headed our way.
* Speaking of economic development, local residents are capable of big things, as evidenced by Parkersburg native Tony Lamb's induction into the Kentucky Entrepreneur Hall of Fame recently. Lamb is the owner of the largest food truck organization in the world, Kona Ice. Other companies launched by Lamb include Travelin' Tom's Coffee Truck, named after his father; and Beverly Ann's Warm Cookies and Ice Cream, named after his mother. It's a family affair, and one that has its roots right here in Parkersburg. Congratulations!
* Though Belpre, Marietta and Warren high schools' marching bands are to be commended for making it to the Ohio Music Education Association State Marching Band Finals this month, one performance warrants some extra congratulations. Belpre High School's marching band received Superior ratings from the judges. Students in the various bands supported one another. "They cheered for us when our score was announced and we cheered for them when theirs was announced," said Belpre senior Connor Elder, referring to the other local schools. The rest of us should cheer for all three bands, who clearly put in quite a season's worth of work.
