* It is welcome news, indeed, that Oklahoma Christian University will be taking over registrar services for Ohio Valley University alumni whose transcripts have been in limbo since OVU shut its doors in 2021. "We are saddened by the loss of a sister institution, but Oklahoma Christian University is preparing to help Ohio Valley University alumni obtain their academic transcripts. We hope this small act of service will be of good benefit to them as they seek to expand their careers and education," Oklahoma Christian University Provost Dr. Brian Starr said. Officials at the Oklahoma school are to be commended for stepping in and figuring out how to get done what appeared to pose a challenge for others. Surely the news will help former students finally move on from the closure.
* Rotary Club of Parkersburg members were the bee's knees last week when they dedicated the exhibition beds of native plant pollinators at Plants at the Point -- a garden operated by the Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. "These perennial flower beds will not only add beauty to the community gardens and enhance the experience of our tourism visitors, but will provide the setting for educational presentations on the importance of native pollinators to the food chain on which we depend," said Mark Lewis, president and CEO of the bureau. "Planting pollinator friendly plants is an important step that we can all take to help bees make a comeback." Well done, folks.
* Those who made their way to the Marietta Times parking lot Sept. 30 to donate food, necessities or money to the Gospel Mission Food Pantry made a big difference for families in our community who are in need. While we thank those who made the trip, we also remind readers there is another opportunity Oct. 14 to donate in the Parkersburg News and Sentinel lot to benefit Old Man Rivers and the Disabled American Veterans Wood County Chapter 32 food pantries with the Chick Crites Annual Food Drive.
