Outlook: Women and children’s hospital will be a boost

Last week's formal announcement of a new Women and Children's Hospital building at Memorial Health System's Belpre campus was the culmination of teamwork that brought together community partners, private support, Akron Children's Hospital and state funding after what state Rep Jay Edwards, R-94th Dist., called "an uphill battle."
It was a fight well worth the effort, to develop our region's only women and children's hospital.
With help from Hall Financial Advisors through founding partner and CEO Christopher Hall and his wife, Kimberly; the Dave and Arlene Archer family; Peoples Bank; and state officials, the new facility will be built adjacent to Memorial's Belpre campus. That's in addition to the newly completed Pediatrics Emergency Department, also developed with help from Akron Children's Hospital.
Such a facility is an important step forward for the health of Mid-Ohio Valley women and children, and, as Edwards pointed out "an unprecedented investment" that will be a "massive boost for economic development."
With that kind of progress comes the desire to continue looking forward, and doing better. That doesn't happen without sustained effort as multi-faceted as what brought the Women and Children's Hospital to fruition.
"As far as benefactors, we need everyone here. And beyond," Jarrett Stull, executive director of Memorial Health Foundation, told the group gathered last week. If it is work that will help the Mid-Ohio Valley continue its march toward not just healthier residents, but a healthier economy and brighter outlook, when the need again arises there will be no doubt be many more to answer the call.
