Day of Action: Volunteer efforts are an inspiration

Our valley is filled with incredible organizations through which good work is done with the help of volunteers. They do that work all year long. But once a year, an opportunity is presented for even more volunteer workers to jump in on projects that help those organizations continue to fulfill their mission. This year's United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley Day of Action was an even bigger effort than in years past.
"This is the largest day of action event that we have ever launched," said Stacy DeCicco, executive director for the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley. "The difference that will be made throughout our community on this day will be difficult to fully describe. The impact will reach far and wide and could not continue at this level if we didn't have phenomenal community partners walking alongside us in these efforts."
Those community partners tackled at least 28 projects with more than 350 volunteers. They worked in Parkersburg, Vienna, Mineral Wells, Marietta, Belpre, Ravenswood, Ripley and other communities.
Among the examples was an ecology pond built at the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County and painting, landscaping and picnic shelter work at Civitan Park in Belpre
"We are all out tackling community projects," said Kim Couch, director of the Camden Clark Foundation. "It is always nice when a community can come out and support a project when you are relying on volunteers. No one can do it all by themselves."
Fortunately, here in our communities, there has always been enough support to ensure these organizations are never forced to do their work by themselves. But the burden is not getting any lighter. As we extend our thanks to those who came out to work on the annual Day of Action, it is important to remember the need -- financially and in terms of volunteer help -- is constant.
We must all be inspired to do what we can, whenever we are able.
