UP: To the volunteers who helped prepare this year's Thanksgiving dinners for organizations such as the Salvation Army or many local churches. In a week-long effort, volunteers prepared food and put together take-away or delivery boxes for hundreds of people. "I think it is important for the Salvation Army to do, because Thanksgiving is such a big day for families and there are many people who don't have families to gather with," said Captain Marjorie Rowe, Corps Officer for the Parkersburg Salvation Army. "If we can give them a good solid meal for Thanksgiving then we are going to do it." Such a sentiment likely holds true for all the organizations and volunteers who fed folks across the Mid-Ohio Valley. For that, we are thankful.
UP: To those who include among their regular giving the American Red Cross. Whether the donations be financial, volunteer time or blood, we must do all we can to help such a vital organization avoid remaining in a state of crisis. "Whether a crisis is felt by an entire community or a single person, it turns lives upside down -- especially for the most vulnerable," Erica Mani, chief executive Officer, American Red Cross Central Appalachia Region, said. "This holiday season, join us to provide help and hope for people in need during future emergencies by making a financial donation, volunteering or by giving blood." We know many here already do just that. But there is always plenty of opportunity for others to join them.
UP: To those honored by the Marietta Community Foundation during its annual recognition of philanthropic contributions. Among those receiving awards were Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Co. in partnership with the Spartan Foundation, named Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year 2022 in Business. Congratulations, folks; and thank you.
