Be Safe: Remember COVID safety at fairs

West Virginians who aren't quite prepared to drive all the way to Lewisburg for a state fair experience can instead make their way to Mineral Wells this week, as the West Virginia Interstate Fair and Exposition has returned, for the 48th year.
Pageants and truck pulls, livestock and live entertainment, craft exhibits and carnival rides, mud bogs and marketplaces -- and of course fair food -- nothing says summer like wondering whether one should consume the funnel cake before or after riding Zero Gravity.
Those who don't want to make the trip out to the fair grounds in the middle of Wood County likely have other county fairs and festivals to look forward to this summer, and the return of such events is wonderful to behold. (Particularly when skyrocketing gasoline prices are making it more tempting to develop closer-to-home vacation plans).
If we want to keep these events up and running through the end of summer and into the fall, we've still got to be smart, folks. If you are not feeling well, stay home and get tested. Wash and sanitize your hands. Use common sense about crowding in with others. Get vaccinated and/or boosted if you have not already done so.
Interstate Fair officials have a motto that their event is "where families come for fun!" It's true, and surely those seeking an affordable few days of entertainment will come from far and wide to join in.
Let's all do our part, then, and make sure those guests leave with nothing but carnival prizes, flea market finds, and good memories.
