Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

UP: To those who participated in a “lunch and learn” town hall with West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey last week in which they had the opportunity to ask questions, share their ideas and concerns, and participate more fully in the workings of our state government. Such meetings are an important way for state officials to remind themselves they serve us, rather than the other way around; and that the West Virginians are rarely shy about giving them a piece of their minds.

UP: To Greenscape Landscape of Parkersburg for sprucing up the Seats of Honor at Southwood Park. They are replacing gravel with flagstone pavers and are sprucing up the landscaping, having donated most of the material and labor for the project. The benches and flags in the area are meant to honor local first responders and are being engraved with the names of some of those local heroes over time.

UP: To those honored in West Virginia Kids Count’s celebration or 2021 Champions of Children. Among those honored was actress and Mountain State native Jennifer Garner, whose “commitment to kids on the ground level here has been extraordinary,” according to Executive Director Tricia Kingrey. Despite the celebrations, Kingrey noted West Virginia kids are still struggling, and there is a great deal of work yet to do.
