UP: To the neighbor who saw smoke coming from a nearby home on Homestead Court, called for help and then kicked in the door to save three dogs he knew were inside. A house fire is devastating enough. The neighbor prevented the occupants of that home from having to endure the loss of their pets, too. Kudos to him, for being aware, calling 911 and leaping into action.
UP: To the local farmers and farmers markets who were spotlighted during National Farm Market Week, last week. The folks who bring us truly local, fresh fruits, vegetables and even some meat and dairy products, are a key part of what gives us food options that are not available everywhere. They are an essential part of making sure our communities have fresh, local, affordable -- and very good -- food almost year-round.
UP: To those who once again supported the Camden Clark Foundation through this year's Charity Golf Classic. With $38,000 raised initially, the amount of money going toward helping cancer patients soared over $40,000 when two people donated their prize money. Ryan Taylor, president and CEO of Pickering and Associates donated $2,000 for having his ball land closest to the pin during the helicopter ball drop; and a Pickering and Associates employee who won $615 in the 50/50 donated that to the cause as well. Thank you, folks.
