UP: … and every other measure of respect and gratitude we can think of, to the men and women whose sacrifice is honored this Memorial Day. Whether the day is marked by parades or solemn ceremonies and family moments in cemeteries, it is essential we view this holiday as more than just the unofficial beginning of summer and an excuse to open the pool and grill out. When we remember those who died in military service to this country, we remember the very reason for the freedoms we enjoy and the many blessings we take for granted in the United States.

UP: To the collaboration that has brought the annual Sour Mash Tournament under the umbrella of the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley, in partnership with the Parkersburg Rotary Club, which has presented the event for the past nearly 50 years. "They thought it was a great opportunity and we thought it was a great partnership," said Stacy DeCicco, who is both the executive director of the United Way and a member of the Rotary club. Indeed, the change should yield positive results for all the local organizations that traditionally benefit from the tournament.
