Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
UP: To Parkersburg South High School math teacher Sara Klesel, who was named Wood County Schools Teacher of the Year at last week’s board of education meeting. “This is quite an honor, especially in a year when every teacher has truly gone above and beyond. I couldn’t do it without my family, who’s been super supportive this past year,” Klesel said. “Helping out when I’ve been losing my mind. The administration has been truly supportive and even National Board Certified teachers who I’ve met throughout this year (have) been a lifeline.” She is right. To stand out when so many teachers are going the extra mile is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations.
UP: To incoming Belpre High School head football coach Jimmie Bell III, who is hoping to be a boost to the community in a way that surpasses football. “I do believe that I can be that B-12 shot to help uplift the community. Belpre has some really interesting, rich and powerful history. Being from Youngstown, I can understand how sometimes that history can go the wayside if you forget about it,” Bell said. “But also know being from Youngstown, that you can shoot some energy into the arms of the community and the community can be something that people thought it could be again.” Welcome, sir.
UP: To the Wood County Reading Council, for donating 175 parent packets to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center. The packets include board books and reading tips to help parents of newborns set their children off on the right path when it comes to a love of reading. Thank you, folks.
