New Year: Let’s leave the woes of 2020 far, far behind

What high hopes we have for 2021. After the year we have endured, it seems as though there is no where to go but up, for many people.

We can only achieve progress, however, if we have learned the lessons of the past year.

We can only round the corner on COVID-19 if we do what we must to stop the spread; and get vaccinated as the opportunity becomes available to us.

We can only right the wrongs of social inequality and injustice if we listen to the voices that rose in unison.

We can only move forward as a nation if we put aside the political divisions stoked by those who were served by stirring their bases to anger and hate, and begin again to work for the good of ALL, understanding that means compromise and working together.

We can only improve the economy for all Americans if we reach out to help and support each other, and understand financial wellbeing means more than a booming stock market or a few billionaires doing well for themselves.

We can only do better for everyone if we are looking out for one another, not just for ourselves.

The good news, of course, is that we can do those things, if we so choose. But it is a choice.

Here’s hoping the New Year brings a renewed determination to create a rising tide that lifts all boats … and leaves the woes of 2020 far, far behind.

Happy New Year, everyone!

“Let our New Year’s resolution be this: We will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word.” — Swedish politician Goran Persson

“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.” — American author Melody Beattie
