Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
UP: To Parkersburg City Council’s Urban Renewal Authority for passing a budget and timeline for an affordable housing initiative using modular homes, which is nearly $100,000 less than originally projected. Decisions made in July appear to be bearing fruit — and saving taxpayers’ money on a project that could do a lot of good for one neighborhood.
UP: To the team effort that included calling in trained crisis negotiator Lt. Matthew Board of the Parkersburg Police Department to help de-escalate a frightening situation at the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department Tuesday. St. Joseph’s Ambulance Services, Wood County Sheriff officers, Vienna Police Department officers and the Wood County 911 Mobile Command Center in addition to Board handled a situation that could have had a very different ending. The 71-year-old man who allegedly walked into the Vienna VFD and made threats with a firearm, then remained inside, is now in the North Central Regional Jail. Bravo, folks, for using your combined skills to bring about a safe ending for everyone.
UP: To Edison Middle School seventh-grader Madison Archer and Parkersburg South High School freshman Clayton Yeager, for winning the Wood County Schools Energy Art Contest through CMTA Energy Solutions. Here’s hoping their art work will inspire others to get creative in looking for ways to conserve energy.
