Velda "Jo" Sams, 77, of Vienna, WV, passed away holding her husband’s hand on September 29, 2026.
She was born October 31, 1948, in Cordell, OK, a daughter of the late Virgil N. Smith and Viola (Shockey) Smith.
Jo was an office manager for St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.
She was a member of Belpre Garden Club and enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Jo is survived by her husband of 38 years, Jimmy Sams of Vienna, WV; daughter, Dana Hillenbrand (John) of Montana; 2 step-daughters, Michelle White (Roger) of Waldron, IN, and Melissa Smith of Parkersburg, WV; brother, Virgil Smith (Pat) of Arapaho, OK; sister, Rose Stockman of Clinton, OK; 6 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Beth and Sue.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at 1:00 PM at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Reverend Frank Miller officiating. Online condolences may be sent to the family @ www.leavittfuneralhome.com.
