William Joseph Cullen, 83, of Vienna, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born November 10, 1942, in Akron, Ohio, Bill was the son of the late John and Margaret (Jarvis) Cullen. He grew up in Weston, West Virginia, alongside his eight brothers and sisters and remained deeply connected to his family throughout his life. He graduated from St. Patrick Catholic School in 1961.
In 1963, Bill met the love of his life, Frances Myers, while working at WV Glass Specialty Company in Weston. They married on November 21, 1964, beginning a marriage that would span nearly 62 years.
Bill proudly served his country as a member of the Army Reserves, completing Basic Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
In 1965, Bill began his career with Air Products and Chemicals in Parkersburg, where he would spend nearly 40 years before retiring. Following retirement, he continued giving back to his community through volunteer work at the Stone Soup Kitchen, where he enjoyed helping others.
Bill was a devoted Catholic whose faith was an important part of his life. As a child, he served as an altar boy and later served his church as an adult acolyte and Eucharistic minister. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith was reflected not only in his service to the Church, but in the way he lived his life -- always willing to lend a hand and going out of his way to help anyone in need.
Bill was a man who found great joy in the simple things. He loved working on his cars and spending time tinkering in his garage. He enjoyed action movies and westerns, laughed out loud at the television shows he loved, and could often be found listening to country music. Above all, though, Bill loved his family.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, loyal brother, and a kindhearted man who never hesitated to help someone who needed him. His generosity, humor, strong faith, and love for his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Frances Cullen of Vienna, WV; and their six children: Leslie (Jerry) Wood of Morgantown, WV; Melissa Goodwin of Parkersburg, WV; Gayle (Tasos) Pantelidis of Waterford, OH; Alison (Seth) Cressey of Parkersburg, WV; Rebecca (Corey) Miller of Vienna, WV; and Bill (Erica) Cullen of Waverly, WV.
He is also survived by his brothers, Ron Cullen of Clarksburg, WV; Steve Cullen of Charleston, WV; Mike (Melody) Cullen of Parkersburg, WV; and Chris (Pam) Cullen of Parkersburg, WV; and his sisters, Sue Moran of Baltimore, MD, and Angie Lewis of Parkersburg, WV.
Bill leaves behind 17 grandchildren: Katie (Brian) Burkhouse of Haines City, FL; Kristyn (Tyler) Ferrell of Scott Depot, WV; Lucas (Megan) Goodwin of Independence, WV; Kyle (Olivia) Goodwin of Wheeling, WV; George, Joseph, and Jacob Pantelidis of Waterford, OH; Alli (Jacob) Hinzman, Brenna Miller, and Cullen Miller of Vienna, WV; Nick and Robert Cressey of Parkersburg, WV; Austin (Jaiden) Brunny of Waterford, OH; Alley Brunny of Indianapolis, IN; and Zoey, Shelby, and Will Cullen of Waverly, OH.
He leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Teddy and Juliette Ferrell of Scott Depot, WV; Asher Hinzman of Vienna, WV; and Kyeson Brunny of Waterford, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret (Jarvis) Cullen, and his sisters Bernie and Becky.
His life was one of faith, family, service, hard work, laughter, and generosity. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May he rest in the peace of Christ and be welcomed into the eternal embrace of God.
The service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Vienna, WV, with Father Sinu Lukose as acting Celebrant. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Memorial Contributions may be made in his name to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, or Stone Soup Kitchen Parkersburg.
