On September 5, 2026, after a brief illness, Wayne Francis Abel of Ravenswood, WV, was called home.
Wayne was born on August 25, 1933, to Lloyd and Inez Abel in Grafton, WV. He married Jean Vandergrift on September 24, 1953.
Wayne served in the U.S. Army. After his service, he was employed by Kaiser Aluminum/Constellium for 36 years. He was an active member of the Ravenswood Fire Department for over 50 years.
Wayne loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He liked to golf, fish, garden and being a fireman. He is known for his beautiful yard in the summertime and his Christmas decorations in the winter. He was called many things in life, Dad, Pap, Grandpa and was a friend to many and will be missed by all.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jean, his three children, Debbie (Tom) Thaxton, Tim (Jodi) Abel and Mike (Mary) Abel. He has nine grandchildren, Jason and Justin Thaxton, Jeff McPherson, Mark and Jenn Abel, Ryan Abel, Allison Schutte, Coty Giles, and Brad Allen, and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanie McDaniels of Phillip, WV.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wayne's name to the Ravenswood Fire Department.
