Joe Hushion, 96, of Parkersburg, WV passed away peacefully on Monday September, 21, 2026, at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born May 16, 1930, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, a son of the late Michael and Dorothy Hushion.
He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1948, where he was a member of the Acappella Choir and played baseball and basketball. He attended West Virginia University from 1948 to 1952, where he earned a letter in freshman baseball, and was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Joe entered the Army in 1952 and served as a counter-fire officer with the 24th Infantry Division in Korea. Upon returning to Parkersburg, he joined his father at McGlothlin Printing Company. He remained in Parkersburg in the printing business for 64 years.
Joe married the love of his life, Susan Keister in 1955. The two were happily married for 66 years until her passing in 2021. They were the proud parents of six children: Michael Deem (Nancy); Jennifer Clegg; Sara Radtke (Rod); John Hushion (Laurie); Ann Stemple (Bob); and Judy Groff (Nathan). Together they were blessed with eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Joe was very active in the community. He served on Parkersburg's first Urban Renewal Authority Board. He helped start Parkersburg's Little League baseball where he coached Little League and Babe Ruth for 18 years. He was a past president of the Greater Parkersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Mid-Ohio Valley United Fund. He was a fundraiser for the WVU Mountaineer Athletic Club for 35 years. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Camden-Clark Hospital for nine years and as president of the Camden-Clark Foundation for 23 years. He was a past member of the Elks and Rotary clubs. Joe was an 80-year member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served on many committees. He was also an avid sports fan, who loved the Mountaineers and Cincinnati Reds.
More importantly, Joe was a loyal and devoted family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and treasured the friendships he built over the years. Those who knew him best will remember his quick wit, dry sense of humor, and great story telling. He will be deeply missed by many.
In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, John; his grandson, Justin Radtke; and his daughter, Jennifer Clegg.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Friday November 27, 2026 at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. His remains will be inurned with his wife’s at First Presbyterian Columbarium.
