There's a bright light in heaven as Janice Emerick made her entrance on Sunday, September 13th after a severe lung infection. Janice fought mightily for 12 years following a brain injury and years of complications. She was born in Parkersburg, WV in 1953 the first- born daughter of Pat (Carr) Lucas and Jim Carr. Janice was preceded in death by her father, Jim Carr, her grandparents B.B. & Dollie Dye, and her Aunt Dessell Foy.
Janice is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Dave Emerick, her mother and step-father, Dave & Pat Lucas; sister Joyce Harris (Max); cousins Maureen Brown (George), Michelle Jordan & Sheila Lacouture; her daughter Megan Shope (Brian), son Adam Kirk (Helen) and family Dave Emerick (Cathi), Mike Emerick, Adam Emerick (Suzanne). Grandchildren and great- grandchildren abound in Janice's family: grandchildren Owen, Elias & Riah Shope, Althea Kirk, Alex Emerick (Brittany), Matt Emerick (Kayla), Brad Emerick (Jenna), Ashley Good (Eian), Katie Emerick, Kayla Gray (Chris), Zach & Morgan Emerick, Haley Bridges (Dalton), Kelsey & Austin Campo. Great- grandchildren Abel & Ellie Emerick, Renley Emerick, Hudson Emerick, Liam & Kolt Good, Sadie Bridges, and baby Emerick coming March 2027.
Janice had an incredible teaching career for 38 years. She taught the majority of her years at Gihon Elementary caring for hundreds of students and going on adventures with her close teaching friends, The Gihon crew. Janice was a great friend to many. She loved going on trips with her friends of over 40 years, Jane Fruit and Joyce Hubner. Janice was a planner through and through and was known for her thoughtfulness and caring ways. She decorated for every holiday to the hilt, hosted amazing family gatherings, showers and tea parties with chocolate fountains and extravagant desserts. In recent years Janice loved shopping with Cindy at Crown Floral and Gabe's for all of her grand and great-grandchildren and sending cards and packages to those she loved.
Our family would like to give our unending love and gratitude to Cindy Fenn, Janice's long-time caregiver and dear friend, who became a part of our family. We would also like to thank Dr. Kline and Nurse Paula for their care for her over all of these years. We are grateful to the ICU and CVU nurses at WVU Medicine- Camden Clark hospital, especially Dr. Kelil, RN Lacey, and the Amedisys hospice staff.
Family and friends are invited to join us in a Celebration of Life for Janice on Saturday, September 26th at 2pm, with a reception following at South Parkersburg Baptist Church, 1655 Blizzard Dr. in Parkersburg.
