Arthur “Art” L. Hunt, 83, passed away unexpectedly at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Art donated his body to science.
He was born February 5, 1943 in Anaheim, California to the late Clarence Everett Hunt and Carol Lenore (Marsh) Hunt. When his father joined the Navy during WWII, his mother moved back to South Dakota, her home, where Art spent the rest of his younger life.
Art graduated from Bennett County High School in 1961 and then attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology graduating in 1965 receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later returned to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology earning his Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. While there, he was a member of the Theta Tau fraternity making many lifelong friendships. He also became a Life Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
After graduation in 1965 Art was employed by DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware. He had several different assignments over the years finishing his career with DuPont at Washington Works, WV in 2005. During his employment with DuPont he was able to travel many places throughout the world which became one of his favorite opportunities making many friends.
Art had several hobbies including photography, sailing for several years on the Chesapeake Bay with friends, feeding the birds (squirrels) and deer and caring for his yard. He attended Williamstown First United Methodist Church where he enjoyed Sunday School and other activities. Art was a member of Washington United Methodist Church attending services and participating in several activities over the years.
He had a special fondness for the United Way helping with a variety of programs. He had one special program that was very special to him. Consumer Credit Counseling Service of The Mid-Ohio Valley, Inc. He enjoyed the fellowship with the employees and said the work there was very rewarding for him.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Joseph Lee and brother Rodney Allen. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Hickman Hunt; sister Rhonda (Glenn) Sonnabend; brother Timothy Hunt; stepchildren Jamie Starcher and Angela Evans; niece Kari (Kenan) Remington; and his most beloved granddaughters Madison Starcher, Catherine Evans and Alexandria Evans; and his very much loved cat, Cheddar.
A Celebration of Life will be held October 3 at 2:00 at Washington United Methodist Church. 10468 DuPont Road, Washington, WV with Rev. David Calvert, Rev. Rick DeQuasie and Rev. Mark James officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of the Mid-Ohio Valley, 2435 Dudley Ave., Parkersburg, WV 26101.
