Ruby E. Dowler, 74, of Washington, passed away July 30, 2026, at her residence. She was born April 15, 1952, a daughter to the late Delbert O. and Helen E. Paxton. Ruby attended New Life Baptist Church, and was known to be a skilled woodsman. She was a skilled fisherman and bow hunter, accounting for over 180 deer in her life. In her youth, she also was a skilled violinist, making all state orchestra 3 times. She also was a lifetime member of DAV Auxiliary, Ch. 32.
Surviving Ruby are her husband Bill Dowler; brother Ray Paxton (Cindy); son Bill Dowler II (Stacy); sisters-in-law Wilda Edman and Sharon Dowler. Granddaughter Braylee Dowler and special family friend Joey Sims (Ester).
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Bernard Paxton; in-laws Harley E. Dowler and Alice E. Dowler, and brothers-in-law Doug Dowler, and Jake Dowler
A funeral service for Ruby will be held Monday, August 3, at 11am, at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg. Burial will follow the service at Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 2, from 5-8pm, at the Funeral Home, and again an hour before the service on Monday.
