James Southard "Jim" Gibson, 77, passed away August 7, 2026, at Manatee Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was the son of the late Lewis D. and Geraldine Boggs Gibson.

Jim was raised in Belpre, OH, where he later raised his family, and retired in Bradenton, FL. A 1967 Belpre High School graduate and jack of all trades, he was a member of Masonic Lodge #609 and International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 667.

Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Parachute Rigger and spent his life serving others. His faith in Christ guided him throughout his life. Under the pen name Tyson Val, he wrote Who Says So in hopes of bringing others closer to Christ. Jim knew he would see his family again in Heaven because they had all accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mindy Shroyer Gibson; son, James Gibson (Michelle); daughter, Jennifer Woodruff (Dwayne); grandchildren, Madeline and Noah Woodruff and Elizabeth and Samantha Gibson; sister, Barbara Holcomb (Don, Jr.); brother-in-law, David Tanner; and mother-in-law, Vivan Orlando.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Gibson Tanner, and best friend, Dave Brown.

Donations in Jim's honor may be made to Disabled Veterans National Foundation, Samaritan's Purse, or International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. Per Jim's wishes, he was cremated. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
