Francis Irvin Sellers, 86, of Pennsboro, WV, departed this life Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, WV.
He was born on February 3, 1940 on Buck Run in Pennsboro, WV, a son of the late Joseph and Bertha Ann (Dotson) Sellers.
Francis graduated from Pennsboro High School with the Class of 1958. On September 15, 1961, he married the love of his life, Rowena "Fern" Horner. Together, Francis and Fern built a beautiful life and family filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. He and Fern loved spending time at their cabin in the mountains, camping, and traveling throughout the United States. Above all, Francis adored the family they built together. His love showed for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, when he proudly attended and cheered at all of their many sporting events. Francis had a sweet tooth and a particular fondness for peppermint patties. He jokingly referred to them as his "breath mints" and could often be found hiding them in various places throughout the house.
Francis worked and retired from Cytec chemical plant after 35 years. During his career, he worked his way up to Supervisor for the Utilities Department. His faith and service to others were an important part of Francis's life. He was a very devoted member in the Pennsboro Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder of the church for 43 years. He dedicated over an impressive 70 years to leading the singing at the church. Francis was committed to his community, serving as one of the founding members of the Pennsboro Volunteer Emergency Squad and proudly serving on the Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Department for 7 years.
He is survived by his loving sons, Loren Sellers (Lenise) and Francis "Bud" Sellers (Angie), all of Pennsboro, WV; grandchildren, Joe Sellers (Liz), Brittany Criss (Tyler), Tyler Sellers (Kayla), Ryan Sellers (Ashley), Issac Sellers, and Nate Sellers; great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Joseph, Sophia, Mattie Michael, Hadley Fern, Harper, Rowan & Ryder Sellers, and Lucas & Acher Criss; siblings, Dennis Sellers (Ruth) and Michele Leggett (Steve), and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Fern Sellers; granddaughter, Andrea Marie Sellers; and sister, Karen Griffith.
A service will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at the Pennsboro Church of Christ with Evangelist Terry Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the Buck Run Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church on Friday, from 4pm-8pm, and Saturday prior to the service, 10am-11am. McCullough Funeral Home in Pennsboro, WV is assisting the family with the arrangements.
