Parsons

Gary Arnold Parsons, 73 of Washington, WV, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2026.

Born and raised in Charleston, WV, he was a man of many accomplishments, after graduating from Charleston High School (Class of 70), he attended and graduated from West Virginia University (Class of 74) and West Virginia College of Graduate Studies (76). After graduation, he began working at the Bureau of Public Debt and later worked at Hazlett, Burt & Watson.

“GAP” as he was known by his friends and fraternity brothers, will be remembered as a family man who adored his daughters and loved being Pop Pop to his granddaughters. As a history buff, he always loved a good game of trivia. One of his favorite places to be was on a mountain top in Greenbrier County. A die hard fan of the Mountaineers, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Old Gold and Blue. He was a proud brother of the Beta Theta Pie fraternity. An avid baseball fan, he had a lifelong loyalty to the Cincinnati Reds and he treasured sharing the love of the game with his daughter as they traveled to dozens of baseball stadiums together through the years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Parkersburg.

He was the son of the late Brownie Arnold and Anne Gunter Parsons. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda Arlene Bryant Parsons; daughters, Anne Parsons and Katie (Sean) Cronin; two granddaughters Emma and Mackenzie Cronin; sister Frances (Brent) Parsons Bowyer; nephew Chris (Kara) Bowyer and niece Anne (Max) Capener; and several cousins.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of TLC In Home Care Services and Amedisys Hospice Care of Vienna for their exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided during Gary’s final days.

A private service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to honor Gary’s life are invited to make a donation in Gary’s memory to First United Methodist Church, 1001 Juliana Street, Parkersburg, WV, 26101.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mid-Ohio Valley Cremation Society.
