Betty Rae Horner, born on August 20, 1929, lived a life defined by love, faith, hard work, and selfless service. She passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026.
Betty shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Larry Lawrence Horner Sr. Together they built a family that became the greatest joy of her life and a lasting legacy of love, devotion, and commitment.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Larry L. Horner Jr.; her grandchildren, Dana Aaron Griffith and Brian Nelson Griffith; and her six cherished great-grandchildren: Allen McGeehan, Cassi McGeehan, Kenny McGeehan, James Griffith, Jonathon Griffith, and Josiah Griffith. Her family was her greatest blessing, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
For an extraordinary 65 years, Betty faithfully served as a volunteer with the Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Her unwavering commitment to serving others reflected her generous heart and deep love for her community.
Betty also enjoyed a long and successful career as the office manager for Big Knot Oil Company and Horner Well Service. Through decades of dedicated service, she earned the respect of her colleagues with her strong work ethic, integrity, and leadership.
Those who knew Betty will always remember her remarkable cooking. Her homemade vegetable soup, meatloaf, and egg sandwiches became family favorites that brought loved ones together around her table. Beyond her culinary gifts, she devoted herself to caring for her children and played an active and loving role in raising her grandchildren, leaving them with countless treasured memories.
Betty met life’s joys and hardships with quiet strength, grace, and resilience. Her steadfast love, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Lawrence Horner Sr.; her daughter, Sondra Lou Griffith; and her granddaughter, Makayla Daniel Horner.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we take comfort in knowing that Bettyás legacy of love, kindness, faithfulness, and service will live on through the generations she so deeply loved. She will be forever missed, forever remembered, and forever cherished.
May she rest in eternal peace.
Funeral services will be held at the McCullough Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV,nn on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 2:00 PM with Brian Griffith speaking. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
