Trudy Kay McCartney

Trudy Kay McCartney (also Bush), passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the age of 73 in Olean, New York, at the home of her eldest daughter.

Born in Liverpool, Ohio, Trudy was raised primarily in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She graduated from Parkersburg South High School in 1971 and later attended West Virginia University at Parkersburg as a returning student, reflecting her lifelong belief in learning and personal growth.

Trudy devoted much of her professional life to public service through a distinguished career with the Social Security Administration. Over the course of several decades, she served communities in Tennessee and Lexington, Kentucky before retiring from federal service. Following retirement, she lived in Lowell, Ohio, and most recently in Palmetto, Florida.

A deeply spiritual woman, Trudy was once a member of South Parkersburg Baptist Church and found great comfort and guidance in her faith throughout her life. She was an avid reader who especially enjoyed the Bible and the novels of Stephen King. Fascinated by the law and criminal justice system, she was an enthusiastic viewer of true-crime programs throughout her life.

Trudy had a special love for animals, and her dogs brought her companionship and joy throughout her later years. She also found beauty and peace in flowers and enjoyed surrounding herself with them whenever possible. A gifted cook, she brought family together around the table, and her homemade pies were legendary among family and friends.

Above all, Trudy was devoted to her family and took immense pride in her daughters and grandchildren. She believed deeply in the value of education and consistently encouraged her daughters to pursue their academic goals and create opportunities for themselves through learning. Her own decision to return to college later in life reflected the example she hoped to set for those she loved. The importance she placed on education, perseverance, and self-improvement remains an enduring part of her legacy.

Though her marriage ended in divorce, family remained at the center of Trudy’s life. She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene J. Bush; her sisters, Thelma “Tammy” Bush and Theresa Wolfe; and her beloved daughter, Jessica E. LeMasters.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Judy Ancona; her daughters, Stephanie Vogel and Kristina Sutz; her four grandchildren, Alexander, Madison, Christopher, and Skylar; her niece, Tiffany Prather; and her nephew, Bob Buffington. She also leaves behind extended family members, dear friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.

Trudy will be remembered for her strength, independence, faith, intelligence, compassion for animals, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the values she instilled, and the love she shared so generously with those around her.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
