Sally Jane McDonie
Sally Jane McDonie
Sally Jane McDonie, 90, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026, at her home. She was born on September 30, 1935 in Kaymoor, WV to William and Elizabeth Plott. Sally graduated from St. Albans High School in 1952. She married the love of her life and her husband of 74 years, Donald McDonie, in 1952, and began raising a family. A woman of deep Catholic faith, Sally devoted her life to her family and to the service of others through her church and community. She became a Girl Scout Leader for many years, cheering at hundreds of ballgames, volunteering at school functions, and always being there to support her children and their friends.
Sally’s faith was the true center of her life. She was beloved in the St. Francis Xavier Parish as a lector, Eucharist Minister, and a dedicated sponsor and volunteer in the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) program. For decades, she faithfully welcomed newcomers into the Catholic faith with warmth, guidance, and genuine care. Her ministry extended far beyond parish walls as she visited the sick and homebound, bringing spiritual comfort, prayers, and her signature joy and companionship to so many. Because of her tireless dedication and living example, many souls found their way to the Catholic Church and deepened their faith. Sally’s greatest gift was showing others what it meant to live out one’s faith every single day.
Sally was an avid reader, loved to travel, and enjoyed playing games and working puzzles. Her greatest joy was spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was affectionately known as “Sassy,” and made an attempt to be at all major events for all family members.
Sally is survived by her husband, Don, her children, Kelley Arnold (Hugh) of Waterford, Ohio, Deni Boblett (Jim) of Woodbury, Minnesota, Patrick McDonie (Vicki) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Jeremy McDonie (Vicki) of Covington, Kentucky. Sally was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren: Holly Arnold (Mike), Jason Boblett (Alexis), Seth Arnold (Jenny), Jordan Reyes (Nick), Robin Eichmiller (Eric), Zoe McDonie, Emily McDonie, and Lexi McDonie. Sassy loved her eleven great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Eli, Lola, and Will Eichmiller, Lucy, Sam, and Evelyn Arnold, Greta and Josie Arnold-Assad, and Adley and Aiden Reyes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Nancy Kilpatrick, her brother Robert Plott, her son Christopher, and her granddaughter Kristen Arnold.
Visitation will be at Leavitt’s Funeral Home on 7th St. in Parkersburg on Sunday, June 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on Monday, June 15 at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Rockland Ridge and Adoration Hospice for their love and care.
