Martha Rose Creel

Creel

Martha Rose Creel, 85, of Spring, Texas, formerly of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026.

Born February 12, 1941, in Parkersburg, she spent most of her life in the community that shaped her faith, friendships, and family. A graduate of Parkersburg High School, Martha began her career as a secretary with Rish Equipment Company. She later attended Parkersburg Community College, studying medical terminology, and went on to work with HCA Port St. Lucie and Treasure Coast Associates during the years she lived in Port St. Lucie, Florida, from 1982 to 1991. She returned to Parkersburg in 1991, and in 2014 made her home in Spring, Texas.

Martha was a long‒time member of Seventh Street United Methodist Church, where she found fellowship and strength throughout her life. She was known for her kindness, gentle humor, and steady warmth–qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. Singing was a big part of Martha’s life – with her sister when little, in church choirs, and around the home. She also enjoyed ceramics and painting, caring for her home, and spending time with friends playing games and sports like bowling, golf, and tennis. She was a staunch WVU football and basketball fan, and after moving to Texas added the Houston Astros to her “must watch” list. Partial to legal dramas, a lot of TV was watched with her sons. Her Christian faith guided her, and her gracious spirit remained a constant blessing to those around her.

Martha’s family was her joy. She is survived by the Texas Creels – Michael T. Creel (Jennifer), grandchildren Rebecca Whitmore (Asa), Alexander, Jonathan (Ainsley) and great-grandchildren Samuel and Lucy Rose; and the Virginia Creels – Gregory J. Creel (Aislinn) and grandchildren Eliana, Evan and Emma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick T. Creel; her parents, Wade Ward and Deli Villers Ward; her sister, Nancy King; and her brother, David Ward.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 11, from 5-7 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Sunset Memory Gardens.

Martha’s life was marked by faith, devotion to family, and a gentle, enduring spirit that will be remembered with love.
