Marlene Gaines

Marlene Sue Gaines, 89, of Parkersburg, passed away June 18, 2026, at her residence. She was born in Parkersburg July 12, 1936, a daughter of the late Paul H. and Mary Gain Lott.

Marlene, along with her sister-in-law, Linda Lott, owned and operated the M and L Craft Store. She also worked at Middleton Dolls leading group tours and in the gift shop and also volunteered on Blennerhassett Island and Henderson Hall. Earlier in life, Marlene was a Registered Nurse having received her degree from the Camden Clark School of Nursing.

Surviving are her children: Eddie Gaines (Sherrie) and Dreta Burgy (Jody Purkey), grandchildren: Michael Gaines (Niki) and Johnny Burgy, along with great-grandchildren: Mason Gaines and Chase, Waylon and Mea Burgy, everyone residing in the Parkersburg area.

In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Ed Gaines III in 2007, brother Larry Lott and sister Carolyn Deskins.

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Jody Purkey officiating. Interment followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation was on Monday.
