Carol Louise “Mitzy” Johnson went home to be with her Lord on June 1, 2026. She passed in peace with five of her children by her side.

Mitzy was the beloved wife of the late Richard Johnson and mother to nine children: Mykel Johnson (Margy Dowzer), Yvonne Epley, Juanita Hadley (Steve), Joan Neelley, Richard Buck Johnson (Heidi Sewell), Mary Lu Molter (Andy), Elizabeth Dudley (Wayne), Julie Fiore (Michael), and Tim Johnson (Melanie). She was dear Grannie to dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Mitzy was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 26, 1933. She lived most of her life in Howell, Michigan. She worked as the secretary to the principal at St. Joseph Catholic School and was an active member of the church there. Throughout their 67 years of marriage, she and Richard lived in Michigan, Wyoming, Texas, and, for the last 20 years, West Virginia. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

Mitzy will be remembered for her merciful, forgiving heart, her unconditional love, and her belief in the power of the Holy Spirit. She was fun-loving, a beautiful singer, a wonderful cook and baker of pies. She could turn any house into a home where she made everyone feel welcome; no one ever left her home without a hug. She loved dogs, cats, horses and animals of all kinds from her youth and throughout her life. Her sweet smile, contagious laugh, and kind heart made you feel loved and valued. She liked adventure, playing cards and games, and watching movies and sports with her family. She taught her children swimming and ice skating, as well as a love of music and guitar playing. She danced, laughed and soaked in every second of being surrounded by the people she loved. Her faith, warmth and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Yvonne (Tremblay) Hochreiter; her seven siblings, John, William, Rose, Richard, Nancy, Gilbert and Pauline; her son-in- law Patrick Neelley; and two grandchildren, Marshall Neelley and Hunter Fiore.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Howell, Michigan. Friends and family will be received one hour prior to Mass beginning at 9:30 AM.

A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow in the church hall. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, 4063 Norton Rd, Howell, Michigan.

A Memorial Mass will be held Sunday June 14 at 11:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Elizabeth, WV. Following the Mass, we will gather to share memories in the church hall. All are welcome.
