Lonnie Ray Tanner
On May 23, 2026, Lonnie Ray Tanner left this world peacefully to be with the Lord after a short battle with lung cancer. Born August 21, 1942, he was the son of the late Carl R. Tanner and Hazel Bailey Tanner Sims.
In 1959, Lonnie enlisted in the United States Marines at the age of 17 years old. He was a skilled welder at Elkem Metals, a carpenter and an avid competitive bass fisherman.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Maxson Tanner, daughters Bev Miracle (Doug), Tina Davis (Tim), grandchildren Angie Joy (Matt), Julie Emigh (Todd), Jason Miracle (Taylor Shamblin), TJ Davis, Tia Townsend (Drew) and brother Carl F. Tanner, great grandchildren Isaac and Joshua Joy, Kaylyn and Tanner Emigh, Noah, Savannah and Kennedy Miracle, Andy, Paige and Wren Townsend and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson Travis Davis, sisters Opal Ann Silvia, Wanda Mae Jett and brother Jimmie Lee Tanner.
A private celebration of life will be held by his family at a later date.
