Harold DeWayne “Jack” Payne

Harold DeWayne “Jack” Payne, 91 of St. Marys, WV, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 11, 2026. Born in Ritchie County near Cairo, WV, on November 2, 1934, he was the son of the late Harold and Mabel Griffith Payne.

Jack was a graduate of Pennsboro High School. He worked as a skilled Master Chevrolet Mechanic and retired as a certified millwright with local union 1755 out of Parkersburg, WV. He enjoyed attending and watching Nascar and dirt track races, supporting his grandchildren’s sporting events and was an avid outdoorsman. Jack proudly bagged his last trophy 10-point buck at the young age of 82.

Jack is survived by his son, Wayne (Karol) Payne of St. Marys, WV; grandchildren, Brandy Taylor (Jed Dennis), Chet (Heather) Rupert, Drew (Sami) Payne, Erica (Jon Gary) Nichols; great- grandchildren, Kyleigh and Tucker Rupert, Logan Taylor, and Boone, Presley, and Walker Payne; brothers, Bus Payne of Tennessee, Jerry (Wanda) Payne of St. Marys; a sister, Annabelle Ballew in Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Steele Payne; a son, Chet D. Payne; a daughter, Connie Payne Rupert; and brothers, Jim, Homer, Bill, and Dave Payne.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday May 15, 2026, at Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys WV. Visitation for friends and family will be from 11:00 AM ­ 1:00PM prior to the service.
