A. Wayne Smith

A. Wayne Smith, of Cairo, WV, born September 25, 1942, died May 17, 2026, at the age of 83 years. He was born and died in the farmhouse he loved at Nutter Farm. Wayne attended Glenville State College and earned his teaching degree. He taught for the Wood County Board of Education for 34 years, retiring from Parkersburg High School as a math teacher.

Wayne is survived by his wife J. Elaine Smith; daughters Andrea Layton (Rick; Daniel, Drew), Tanya Gherke (Bill; Tyler, Jessi), Stacey Spears (Chuck; Alex, Graden), 4 great-grandchildren. Additionally, his bonus son, Jason Settle (Kym), and nephews, Roger and Darren Smith.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jennings and Christine Smith, brothers, Tom and Allen Smith, and sister, Mona Smith.

A private family celebration will take place at a later date.

McCullough Funeral Home in Pennsboro, WV is assisting the family with the arrangements.
