Norman “Norm” Frederic Orr, 69 of Walker, WV, passed away Saturday, April 11 at Marietta Memorial Hospital after a brief but valiant fight against cancer. He was born in Parkersburg, WV a son of the late Ethel E. (Degoines) Orr and the late George Ulysses Orr.
Norm was a 1975 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He immediately enlisted into the Army as part of the 101 st Airborne Division stationed initially in Ft. Campbell, KY working as a Crew Chief. After being honorably discharged, he attended Parkersburg Community College to take some welding classes prior to his enrollment as an apprentice into the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local #80 where he worked for 30 years as an insulator asbestos worker, later returning to work as a retiree on occasion. Known for his honesty and integrity, he had a superior reputation in the trade known for his signature motto of “plan your work and work your plan” earning the nickname “IronOrr.” Upon retirement, Norm filled his time volunteering at the Project Sharing mission, helping others and being the Pastor at Herndon Community Church for nearly 20 years. In his spare time, Norm was always willing to lend a hand or provide a tool to help any friend on a project. He loved spending time outside with his grandchildren, always an animal lover, he will be missed by his dogs, Ellie, Max and Mia.
He leaves behind his siblings, Butch (Carol) Orr and Barbara Orr, daughters, Savannah (Andrew) Morgan, And Whitney Burke, his beloved grandchildren Bryan (Kylie) and Katie Jeffers, Bradley and Jacob Burke, Delaney and Evy Morgan and surrogate grandson Dre Kinnett as well as his special friend Beverly Upphole, many friends, family, and loved ones.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Marcella, “Sue” Zimmer, and his beloved wife of 43 years, Wanda Marie Orr whom he is now reunited with.
Services will be held Tuesday 11:00 am at the Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg with Pastor Roland Schwendeman officiating.
Visitation will be Monday 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
